NOTE: As of 27th June 2026, students only have the option of IELTS on Computer. Students are required to take every component except Speaking on Computer, but they have the option of taking the writing component on Paper. The speaking component of IELTS is done face-to-face with an examiner.

Writing on paper is exactly what it sounds like; students will have the option, when booking dates, to take the writing component of the IELTS test on paper. But if it is chosen, they will also be required to take one skill retake of the writing component on paper.

What are the requirements for booking IELTS date?

Registration for booking the IELTS date with Search Education requires:

Valid passport	For IELTS test registration, you need to bring a passport for identity verification.
Mobile number	You will require an active mobile number to receive updates and verification codes.
Email address	To get a confirmation number, important updates, and IELTS results.

Note: If you are below 18 years of age, you need to provide a written consent form signed by your parents or guardian. Students under the age of 16 are not permitted to book the IELTS exam.

The main authorised providers of the IELTS test in Nepal are the British Council and the International Development Program (IDP). The format, difficulty, or scoring of IELTS remains the same whether you take it through the British Council or IDP. What is the fee for IELTS date booking?

Frequently Asked Questions?

Can I reschedule or cancel my IELTS test date once booked?

There are strict rules for rescheduling or cancelling the IELTS test date once it is booked. The rules are as follows:

If you cancel or reschedule more than five (5) weeks before the IELTS test date, you will get a refund after a small admin fee is deducted.
If you cancel or reschedule within five weeks of the IELTS test date, the full fee applies unless you have a valid medical reason.
If you submit a medical certificate within five days of the IELTS test date, you can get a refund after deducting administrative charges.

Is a Passport Necessary for the IELTS Exam Date?

Yes, you need to bring a passport on test day, depending on which one you used for booking your IELTS date.

How long is IELTS valid?

The IELTS is valid for two years from the date of the test.

What are the new rules for IELTS?

Effective from February 22, 2025, participants are not allowed to use pencils in all IELTS paper-based exams. Candidates must use a black ballpoint pen for writing their answers.

How many times can we apply for IELTS?

You can take IELTS as many times as you want until you achieve your desired score.

What identification (ID) do I need to bring with me on test day?

You must bring your passport, depending on which one you used for booking your IELTS date.

Keynote on IELTS regulations: In 2025, IELTS introduced a pen-only policy for paper-based exams. Use the black ballpoint pen provided by the test centre. The use of pencils is now prohibited. Electronic items are also not allowed inside exam halls and must be kept outside the test room.
